Biography

Born 1965 in Vienna, lives in Vienna and Berlin.

1987 – 1993 | Academy of Applied Arts Vienna / Visual Media Design (class of Peter Weibel), Diploma 1993
1991 – 1994 | Institut of New Media at the Städelschule Frankfurt / Main (post-graduate studies) assistent to Dara Birnbaum, Matt Mullican, Peter Weibel
1995 – 1996 | project-related residency in New York
1996 – 1997 |guest professor for Visual Communication at the Academy of Design, Offenbach/Main
1998 | artist-in-residence at the Schindler House program/MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles
1999 – 2006 | advisory board of Vienna Secession, 1999 – 2001 vice president
2000 – 2003  | curatorial projects in the framework of haus.0 program at Künstlerhaus Stuttgart
2005 – 2006  | Professor for Film and Video/Merz Academy, Stuttgart
2006 | Professor for Art and Digital Media, Akademie of Fine Arts, Vienna
2007 | Adjunct professor at the Art Institute Boston/Lesley University
International gallery and institutional exhibitions, commissions and projects in public space; workshops and presentations in the framework of international art/educational institutions. Since 1999 curatorial projects and publications (Vienna Secession, haus.0 program at Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, Neue Galerie Graz, Center for Art and Media Technology ZKM Karlsruhe).
The work focuses on contemporary forms of an art practice established around the relation of cinema and New Media with an emphasis on notions of identity, representation and (feminist) film theory. Productions including and intersecting the fields of installation, film/video, text/publications, curatorial projects and websites. Furthermore, the projects include works in public spaces (the most recent one an invitation for the competition in the framework of a redesign of a section of Vienna's Karlsplatz subway passage).
